USAFE Ambassadors of Jazz Bring Energy and Expertise to Baumholder Middle High School
Baumholder Middle High School student musicians had a fun and memorable experience when the USAFE-AFAFRICA Band’s Ambassadors of Jazz visited campus to lead an engaging and inspiring Master Class on rehearsal techniques.
During the session, the band shared insights on how they approach rehearsals, emphasizing preparation, active listening, and awareness of the ensemble’s full sound. To bring those lessons to life, the musicians performed “Samba 83,” a piece written by BMHS band director Jim Valieant.
“The results were amazing,” Valieant said. “My kids were so pumped up after that experience, and it was extremely cool to hear these guys play my chart.”
After their first run-through, the band invited BMHS students on stage to stand among the performers, giving them a unique chance to feel the dynamics and energy of a professional ensemble from the inside.
“That was the best!” said BMHS student Jelia Smith.
The visit wrapped up with a schoolwide concert. BMHS Principal John Zesiger expressed appreciation for the band’s time and mentorship, stating: “Thank you for doing this.”
