Greetings Baumholder MHS Community!
Head’s up & great news for our incoming 9th-grade students!
This year, Baumholder MHS reached College Board’s AP Platinum status!
AP Platinum status, awarded by College Board, signifies a high school’s excellence in providing access for students to enroll in AP courses in high school, with phenomenal results!
The Platinum criteria includes 50% or more of your HS population graduating with a score of 3 or higher on at least AP exam during their high school career with 15% or more of a graduating cohort of students taking 5 or more AP exams with at least one taken in the 9th or 10th grade – Baumholder MHS has reached this goal and as promised, additional offerings will continue to support our students!Â
Offerings for our incoming 9th grade class:
All 9th-grade students will enroll in Pre-AP English Language Arts (ELA) in their 9th-grade year. This course will count towards requisite graduation requirements for English Language Arts and prepare students for writing and reading literacy rigor during their high school years. Before your students experience any apprehension about this course, please note that it is not an Advanced Placement course. However, students will still receive the benefits of Advanced Placement skill building with no end-of-year examination.
Benefits of Pre-AP English Language Arts include:
- Builds Strong Reading & Writing Skills
- Pre-AP ELA emphasizes close reading, evidence-based writing, and critical thinking — all essential skills for success in high school and beyond.
- Prepares You for AP and College-Level Work
- The course introduces strategies and skills you'll use in future AP classes and college coursework, helping students feel more confident and ready.
- Engaging and Challenging Content
- Students will explore thought-provoking texts, multimedia sources, and engaging discussions that foster creative thinking and innovation.
- Helps You Grow as a Communicator
- Pre-AP ELA emphasizes speaking and writing clearly and effectively — skills that are valuable in every subject and future career.
- Increases College and Career Readiness
- Studies show that students in Pre-AP courses are more likely to succeed in AP, graduate on time, and be better prepared for college.
We are excited for our incoming 9th grade class to have this opportunity!
