See you in the Fall, Bucs!

In this photo, teachers are waiving as Baumholder Middle High Schoolers leave the school for the summer.

Dear Buccaneer Families,

As the hallways here at BMHS went quiet this afternoon, I’ve been sitting in my office just reflecting on everything that’s happened over the last nine months. My first year as your principal has been a lot of fun and a lot of hard work, but I know that I am appreciative of being a part of the Baumholder community and the BMHS family.

Honestly, this year has been a journey of growth for many of us. I’ve seen it in your kids, I’ve seen it in our teachers, I’ve seen it with our coaches, and I’ve certainly felt it myself. Some of the best lessons that we learned this year didn't come from a textbook or a lecture or a computer screen; they came from how we treated each other and communicated.  We didn't get everything perfect every day.  We stumbled a few times and made some mistakes along the way.  But to me, that’s just part of the process.  We will reflect on this past year and the lessons we learned in order to strengthen our school for next year.

At the same time, we have so much to celebrate! Our students are fantastic and a few highlights that I'm still smiling about include:

  • The brilliant and highly competitive work from our Robotics and MathCounts teams.
  • The talent and creativity displayed during our fine arts performances and displays.
  • The grit and teamwork demonstrated by our student athletes.
  • The resilience and professionalism of our instructional staff during a year that included a significant transition, a historic lapse in appropriations, as well as learning how to integrate many new curricular resources and digital platforms into the classrooms.

There is a unique spirit at BMHS, and while I’m so proud of what we did this year, I’m more focused on building on this momentum to enhance next year.   If you would like to be more involved next year, please reach out!  We are happy to welcome more participants to our PTSA, SAC, as a volunteer coach, or in other capacities.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, our Buccaneers have earned a break!  I hope you have a safe, relaxing, and fun summer where you can create new family memories.

When it is time to come back to school, we'll be ready. Our New Student/Family Orientation and Back to School Bash is on Friday, August 14th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We can't wait to see familiar faces and welcome our brand-new Buccaneers.

Thank you again for a wonderful first year. Have a great summer!

Best,

John Zesiger

Principal, BMHS

EVERYONE IS WELCOMED AND WILL BE TAUGHT HOW TO WORK OUT CORRECTLY AND SAFELY! MUST HAVE A VAL

Baumholder Middle High School aims to keep their student-athletes healthy and competitive, and part of that will be summer strength and conditioning.

The high school gym and weightroom will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1130-1300 for students to work out and improve their fitness starting on June 15. Students will follow a program created to meet their needs and level of fitness. Everyone at different stages of strength and conditioning are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

VALID PHYSICALS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTCIPATE.

Strength and conditioning is a standard for most schools in DoWEA and in the United States. We need to give our student-athletes the same opportunities as any other high schooler.

Injuries were an issue last season across all sports, and nearly 60 percent could have been prevented with proper strength and conditioning.

In your email, a bus schedule should have been attached for if your student needs a ride. The Teen Center is also open from 1300-1800 throughout the summer with transportation back to Smith Barracks in the evening, if needed. Students are required to sign in every day, so you could reach out to find out if your student attended a particular day. The school is open during the summer, if you need to reach the weightroom via telephone.

If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Coach Schoonover (chris.schoonover@dodea.edu).
